Best of 2016

A few weeks ago we were all getting nervous and excited. Not for Christmas or any other religious get togethers, but over the fact that another musical year had passed (and sadly some of our heroes also passed…).
Another year means another long list of albums that came out over the past twelve months. As always our music taste is a very welcome conversation topic when we’re together. Also when we’re not together, since we are quite modern and stay in touch via WhatsApp.
So, we had lot of fun making this, and lots of good memories discussing last musical year. Marco’s favorite band Face To Face made a new record and this time it’s good (we all agreed that the last one was a bit of a deception). The Oathbreaker album also was met with some big enthusiasm in our group; impressive and intens record over which quite a few messages were sent to eachother. We were all blown away by the amazing Nails album which we described best as “heavy as fuck”.
And just like every year we have a classic punkrock band in our year list; this time the Descendents. Being in a punkrock band you just simply gotta love the Descendents. And we do. We will have a long hard talk with Guy when we see him as he has some explaining to do on not putting it on his list.

The number one record of us tho is the Touché Amoré record “Stage Four”. It ends up on only three of the five members’ lists, but they all put it is number one, so it left some impression.
All in all, a great top 5, and we think it shows quite well how diverse we are as people within our band. We made a handy playlist that you can subscribe too, or where you can listen to the five albums that we crowned “Best of 2016”, maybe you’ll find some gems in there. We know we’ll be blasting it in our van when we come towards you next time!

If you click the ‘continue reading’ button on the bottom, you will be able to see all our individual lists as well.
Feel free to let us know your lists, we love seeing those!

For years we’ve been visiting the -quite legendary- Groezrock Festival in Belgium. Watching bands that influenced us, bands that later became big, hanging out with friends, hanging out with other bands, drinking beers and eating as much food from JustLikeYourMom as we possible could.
This year will be slightly different. We’ll also  do an acoustic performance! On the Saturday we’ll be playing some songs at the American Socks stand. Be sure to come say hi, and we’ll nurse that hangover of yours!

Best of 2015

We are not one to break traditions, so we all sat down in the beginning of this year with piles of records, cd’s and digital playlists to make our annual Top 10. So many great albums to chose from, and so many good memories. Driving into Germany for our show in Hameln while enjoying some wintersun (not the band) and the new Millencolin album, suprised by how catchy it was and how easily we could sing along. Put us right in a good mood. And of course the glorious return of Good Riddance, including an awesome performance on last year’s Groezrock. We’re not a happy band, but at that moment all five of us stood there smiling. Shortly after we all enjoyed some beers at the Make Do And Mend performance, seriously impressed. The list is endless.

As usual we added up all our individual lists to create that one big Note to Amy yearlist. And just like every year, there’s five guys in our band with different tastes, lots of overlaps, and strange choices. We all enjoy the occasional bit of punkrock obviously, but certainly are no strangers to other genres. Remember our album of the year 2011? (Benighted – Asylum Cave). You can see our individual lists at the bottom – there might be some interesting records in there for some of you.

This year the list contains music that you will find on our iPods and that you’ll find us playing in our van when on our way to shows (not on the way back. Then we stick to Bad Religion or Iron Maiden’s “Life After Death”). For the first time every tho, not a single record shows up on all five individual lists. Good Riddance shows up on four lists (somebody should slap Eelco for not putting it on there), and Wiegedood, Make Do And Mend and Der Weg Einer Freiheit make three lists.

We’ve created a Spotify playlist so you can listen to it as well, and maybe you’ll find some new bands that you haven’t heard of. Kick back, grab a beer, coffee or fruitjuice and put it on. You might need to keep your remote control handy, as you might want to skip over a few bits.
